CELEBRITY Golden globes

Christian Bale took home the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy on Sunday night, for his role as former Vice President Dick Cheney in 'Vice.' While actors usually thank God or their families, Bale decided to give a shout-out to someone a little different: Satan.

Speaking in his native and rarely heard thick Welsh accent, the actor began, "Aw, look at us, what a bunch of lucky buggers we are, to make a life out of doing something that we love." He thanked his industry colleagues, and his wife and children, and then particularly 'Vice' director Adam McKay. "Thank you to that geezer over there, Adam. He said, ‘I’ve got to find somebody who can be absolutely charisma-free and reviled by everybody,' so he went, ‘ask Bale'...For all the competition, I will be cornering the market on charisma-free a**holes—what do you think, Mitch McConnell next? That could be good.”

After bashing the US Senate Majority Leader, Bale sharpened his shot directly at the man he was winning an award for portraying: "Thank you to Satan, for giving me inspiration on how to play this role."

Later that same night, Cheney's daughter, Rep. Liz Cheney, tweeted, "Satan probably inspired him to do this, too" with a link to a story of Bale getting arrested for allegedly assaulting his mother and sister in 2008.

While, naturally, Cheney's family was less than pleased about Bale's speech, there was a group that was particularly excited about it. In response to Bale's Golden Globes victory, the Church of Satan tweeted, "To us, Satan is a symbol of pride, liberty and individualism, and it serves as an external metaphorical projection of our highest personal potential. As Mr. Bale's own talent and skill won him the award, this is fitting. Hail Christian! Hail Satan!"

Though getting Satanists' praise was probably not Bale's intention—especially since his insult was turned into a compliment, plus, who wants to be hailed in the same tweet as Satan?—it turns out the Church of Satan is a longtime fan of his. Not only did they appreciate the actor's gratitude towards their spiritual leader, but they also strongly believe that "Bale's Dark Knight era Batman is the best Batman ever."

Never thought you'd agree with the Satanic Temple on anything, did you?
