There's probably a roster of questions that you should never ask a young, successful woman, but one in particular has been really upsetting Margot Robbie.

The 28-year-old actress was discussing her character Elizabeth I from the new 'Mary Queen of Scots' film with Radio Times magazine when she became impassioned about the pressure put on the monarch to produce an heir, Sky News reports.

"It made me really angry," the Australian star said. "How dare some old guy dictate what I can and can't do when it comes to motherhood or my own body?"

Robbie explained that the problem is no less pressing now, and that, unfortunately, times haven't changed all that much. Ever since the actress married filmmaker Tom Ackerley in 2016, in a private ceremony in Byron Bay, her life outside of her career has been a hot topic for reporters. "I got married, and the first question in almost every interview is 'Babies? When are you having one?'"

It's bigger than just interest in her life, as Robbie explains. "I'm so angry that there's this social contract. You're married, now have a baby. Don't presume. I'll do what I'm going to do." Preach!

Robbie has long been frustrated over female representation in film, and she spoke about how the lack of strong female roles—ones that aren't just "a catalyst for the male story"—pushed her to set up her own production company.

Filming 'Mary Queen of Scots' was a breath of fresh air, however, as it features two strong female roles, played by two wildly talented actresses (the other being Saoirse Ronan), and a female director, Josie Rourke. Robbie explained that exploring her character, someone who made great sacrifices for their career, is particularly interesting to flesh out under the direction of someone who has also had to make sacrifices for their career. "'What do you think you gave up in order to be here?' is a conversation I couldn't have really had with a male director," she said.

Having children is one of those sacrifices that many celebrities make, some quite willingly, but there is no right or wrong time. Besides, if Robbie had a baby, we'd have to wait longer to see her in a new role, and who wants that?

Campo obrigatório
