Adidas has announced an exciting new release. Named Deerupt, the latest collection from Adidas toasts the 1980s and disrupts the “ugly shoe” trend made popular by Louis Vuitton and Balenciaga. Nic Galway, vice president of global design at Adidas, is ushering in the new collection. “I find the term ‘ugly sneaker’ funny, you know, I don’t see a trend, I see a generation’s reaction”, he told told Dazed. “What we’re seeing now are sneakers reminiscent of those worn in the late 90s and early 00s”, Galway explained.
Deerupt was launched at the Louvre in Paris, during a startling show in the museum's basement. The shoes are stripped back and minimal, with a gridded style popularised during the ‘80s. “We went into the archives and started looking at these really lightweight styles [...] and a few others from the early '80s”, Galway told Dazed.
