Artist Gabriel Dishaw creates intricate 'Star Wars' sculptures out of designer handbags. He uses recycled metals and vintage Louis Vuitton purses to create a version of the classic characters that are unlike anything else. In a process called upcycled art, Dishaw finds spare computer parts, wires, and cables to blend with the vintage Louis Vuitton bags.
"Each series represents a personal interest or passion of mine," Dishaw said in an interview on his website. "My love of sci-fi and all things 'Star Wars' has significantly influenced my creature and figurative sculptures. I’m constantly looking for new ways to use old materials, showcasing them in a new light that is of interest to me. In that respect one sculpture can easily balloon into a series."
Using these designer pieces makes his sculptures high-end themselves. One character can cost anywhere between $2,500 and $7,000.
