CELEBRITY Academy Awards
Michael Shannon, who played Colonel Richard Strickland in the Academy Award-winning film 'The Shape of Water,' blew off the Oscars to spend the night in a Chicago dive bar.
The owner of the Old Town Ale House, Bruce Elliott, tweeted a picture of the star posted up with a pint, saying, "Michael Shannon watching the film he starred in, 'Shape of Water,' win best picture while sitting in the Old Town Ale House. No sound on the TV, just sub-titles. Of course the juke box was rocking, and the beer flowing. Where else would you want to spend Oscar night?"

The Old Town Ale House is a regular spot for many Chicago-based actors. Located across the street from the renowned improv club The Second City, this dive bar boasts cheap drinks and good company.
While attending the Academy Awards is a lifelong dream for seemingly everyone else except Shannon, the actor chose to forgo the tuxedo and champagne for a puffy jacket and PBR. Perhaps he made the right choice.
