CELEBRITY Miss Universe

Since South African Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters was crowned Miss Universe, she has used her international publicity to promote self-defense training for women.

The young beauty queen and model revealed that she was held at gunpoint and kidnapped just one month after winning the Miss South Africa competition. Since the incident, Nel-Peters started a training campaign called Unbreakable.

"As Miss South Africa, I was able to launch my own campaign called Unbreakable. My campaign consists of getting specialists in their field together to equip women around South Africa with the necessary skills and knowledge on how to empower themselves — not only emotionally, but physically as well," Demi revealed in a video for the Miss Universe competition, according to Meaww.

In the hope that other women will be able to protect themselves, Nel-Peters is a vocal advocate for self-defense training globally. Miss Universe is not only beautiful, but a powerful role model as well.
