The secret behind Amal Clooney's Met Gala dress
It was not what Tom Ford had in mind
CELEBRITY Amal Clooney
Instead of wearing the full-length crimson gown on the red carpet that Ford had planned for her, Clooney opted for a “backup” number designed by Richard Quinn, which was a pantsuit with a long floral train.
The high-fashion snub not only angered Ford, but Anna Wintour and the Vogue team as well, who had put immense work into planning the prestigious event. According to reports from Page Six, sources said, “they were annoyed, obviously, but they were gracious and said it was fine to go with [another designer], but they would prefer that Amal not wear the dress at all if she wasn’t going to wear it on the Met Ball red carpet.”
However, Clooney then decided to change into the Tom Ford-designed gown while inside the museum gift shop. Adding fuel to the fire of this ensemble debacle, Clooney is Vogue's May cover star—however this may not be the star behavior they had in mind.
