Kelly Marie Tran has deleted all of her Instagram posts due to repeated racial and sexual harassment. The American actress of Vietnamese descent appeared in 2017's 'The Last Jedi' and was the first woman of color in a lead role in the iconic series. Tran has faced abuse since the film's release in December.
According to reports from NME, her character description on the Star Wars ‘Wookieepedia’ fan website was changed to offensive and racially charged language, and alt-right commentator Paul Ray Ramsey made a multitude of comments on Tran’s appearance.
When Tran first landed the role of Rose Trico, a mechanic who joins the force, she told NME, “So many people wish for something like this. I still don’t believe I’m doing it. Rose is not an amazing pilot or a jedi. She’s strong in a different way."
Tran's Instagram account is still active, but all of the photos have been removed.
