Designer Kate Spade was found dead this morning in her New York City apartment, according to TMZ. Law enforcement sources released that they suspect that the iconic fashion mogul committed suicide by hanging.

Kate Spade initially got her start in fashion by working with a women's magazine called Mademoiselle. In college she met Andy Spade, who is actor David Spade's brother. Kate and Andy launched Kate Spade Handbags in 1993 and were married in 1994. The Kate Spade fashion company is now an international success. Known for bright colors, fine leather, and trendy jewelry, Kate Spade remains one of the most popular brands in the industry. 

In 2007, Spade decided to sell the company and opted instead to spend with her family. However in 2016 Spade re-entered the scene with a new label called Frances Valentine, which is named after her daughter.  

Kate Spade died at 55 years old.
