Spice Girl Mel B and her music producer ex have finally and legally divorced, causing many celebratory social media reactions from both parties. The long ugly court battle dragged on for many months, with both parties attempting to slap restraining orders on one another.
'America’s Got Talent' judge Mel B will have to pay Stephen Belafonte's legal fees of $470,300 as well as other reparations. She was also ordered to pay Belafonte $6600-a-month in child support for their six-year-old daughter, Madison, on top of the monthly $15,000 spousal support he gets.
While this seems like a lot of money to us mere mortals, Mel B posted a celebratory dance to her Instagram, blissfully happy at her final divorce settlement.
Upon leaving the courthouse Stephen Belafonte also uploaded a video to Instagram saying “Getting out of my horrific, disastrous divorce court right now. Once again, all allegations dismissed.”
“I went through a long year and a half, two years of almost being asked to give up the rights to my daughter, financial things. And you know what? I stuck with it. There was nothing but lies told about me … That means, that guess what? It’s settled, done. I’m ecstatic — I’m going to Disney World. I got everything I wanted and we could have settled this months ago. It’s such a relief that it’s finally over.”
The entire divorce has been particularly toxic and played out in the public arena with both Mel B and Belafonte accusing each other of abuse and harassment. Judge Mark Juhas threw out the restraining orders that the warring couple tried to enact.
They finally settled their differences this week, after a bitter deadlock, and will both voluntarily stay 2 km away from each other. Exceptions will be made for daughter Madison’s school-related teacher/parent events.
Happy divorce day Mel B.
