CELEBRITY Golden globes

On a night where Hollywood's most talented celebrities get dolled up and walk the red carpet in outfits worth thousands of dollars, to accept prizes for work that made many more thousands of dollars, the Golden Globes might seem like a hard show to steal. But apparently all you need is shameless product placement and one fearless Fiji Water Girl.

While Lady Gaga's dress made Cinderella look bland, and Timothée Chalamet rocked a sequin Louis Vuitton harness, it was the anonymous and yet omnipresent woman passing out bottles of Fiji Water who really shone. Reminding everyone to stay hydrated, her ubiquitous presence on the red carpet foiled the glamorous shots of the likes of Judy Greer, Jim Carrey, Tony Shalhoub, Richard Madden, and many, many more.

It wasn't just that her vivid blue dress completely disrupted the colors of the suits and gowns, but the Fiji Water Girl was really posing behind these major celebrities, throwing sideways smirks at the camera like she belonged there. She may have been there to serve water, but she ended up serving looks.

The world has become completely entranced by this hilariously bold figure, and we're all wondering just what exactly was going through her mind when she became the first worldwide meme of 2019.

Others are cleverly using her as inspiration for their Halloween costume this year, and we're bound to see more than a few blue dresses and Fiji bottles in October.

But the craziest part about this? It was all part of a plan.

The Cut found her on the Instagram story of a writer and producer at Condé Nast, Rom Bokobza. The Fiji Water Girl is a model named Kelleth Cuthbert, and he reportedly asked her if she was aware that she was trending on Twitter.

"It’s calculated,” Cuthbert replied.

And the award for Best Supporting Role at the Golden Globes goes to...
