Punk activist group Pussy Riot has launched a clothing line. The collection comes from their company, Mediazona, and is inspired by activism and resistance. Socks, T-shirts, and trademark ski masks all feature in the cynically named ‘It Gonna Get Worse’. The group worked with designers Kultrab and 9cyka to perfect the riot-themed pieces. All profits from the collection will towards Mediazona’s activist journalism. The collection can be found on Mediazona's website, along with a photo shoot featuring the signature ski masks against technicolor backdrops.
Group member Nadya Tolokonnikova talked to Dazed to elaborate. “T-shirts and masks that we made are inspired by those people who’ll eventually and inevitably make their revolution in Russia,” she said. “In the current political situation [...] clothing became an act of self-expression,” Tolokonnikova clarifies. Pussy Riot are currently touring political rallies and events across America. Earlier this year, two members of Pussy Riot were reported missing after a trip to Crimea. Members Olya Borisova and Shasha Sofeev were found soon after, following detainment by Russia’s Federal Security Service.
