Earlier this year, producer Quincy Jones went off in a series of interviews. Jones shaded The Beatles and Michael Jackson, even sharing revelations about JFK, Ivanka Trump, and Marlon Brando. His carefree tirade was halted when his daughters staged an intervention.
Now, Karl Lagerfeld is following in Jones’s footsteps. The revered creative director of Chanel recently sat down for an interview with Numéro magazine. The designer held no punches back, lashing out at former rivals and critiquing the industry’s emerging stars. Discussing archnemesis Azzedine Alaïa, Lagerfeld said “all he did was make ballet slippers for menopausal fashion victims.” When asked who he’d pick out of Virgil Abloh, Jacquemus, and Jonathan Anderson, Lagerfeld replied “I’d kill myself first.” The designer also mused on sending a cactus to the funeral of Pierre Bergé, founder of Yves Saint Laurent.
Karl also had some icy words for the #MeToo movement. “I’m fed up with it,” Lagerfeld said, adding that “what shocks me most in all of this are the starlets who have taken 20 years to remember.”
