FOOD Coffee

Chang Kuei-fang is a barista at My Cofi cafe in Taiwan's Kaohsiung City. While some customers simply order an espresso or Americano, others take a walk on the wild side with 3D animal designs in their cappuccino foam.

Kuei-fang has become a staple of the coffee art community with her animals, cartoon characters, and insects she crafts from milk foam and other natural ingredients, according to the website Efe.

The intricate art starts with a cup of coffee and a dollop of milk foam on top. Kuei-fang uses a spoon to form the foam into the shape desired. Then, by using espresso or chocolate as ink, she draws the details of the picture. Customers can request specific designs by just merely bringing a photo of the shape, animal, or plant on a paper or phone.

The price for the 3D foam coffee depends entirely on the complexity and detail of the requested creation. Usually, a cat or mouse shape would go for 250 Taiwan dollars, which is $8.28. And custom-made forms, like insects, can cost up to $20.

Next time you take a trip to southeast Asia, grab a coffee creation from Kuei-fang.
