Scientists have explained why people eat for therapy, or to handle stress. Nutritionist Dana James sat down with Munchies, and explained why we eat our feelings away. “There’s a physical aspect and an emotional aspect, and we work on the physical first,” James said. “[Binge-eating] is so frustrating because it’s something [people] want to change but they really do not know how to change it,” she added. She also indicates "that there’s an imbalance in the brain chemistry.” Therefore, nutritionists like James use amino acids to balance people’s biochemistry.
James also explained the science behind craving sugar and maintaining a balanced diet. She states that a large part of why people have sugar cravings is that they're diet is out of balance. Put simply “the more sugar they eat, the more sugar they want.”
