FOOD St. louis

When you think of St. Louis, Missouri, what comes to mind? Perhaps a bustling airport or a few tourist attractions? Until recently the Midwestern location was not known for a wide variety of cuisines and world-renowned chefs. Now, however, St. Louis is rising in the ranks to become a true culinary hot spot!

“When I was younger, people went out to eat with the intention of going out to a fancy, upscale restaurant, like Ruth’s Chris, or you went to Applebee’s or Red Lobster,” McKenna Schuetz Reyes, a chef at the Four Seasons Hotel in St. Louis told Mic. “St. Louis has always had the Arch and the Zoo, but food has not been here and it’s becoming this big, amazing thing.”

St. Louis has put an increasing amount of importance on food innovation, locally sourced products and produce, and fostering entrepreneurship from the ground up. Pastry shops, gourmet Asian eateries, and high-end farmers markets are just the beginning of what St. Louis has in store for eaters.

While renovating menus is essential, what is really making St. Louis standout is what's been here all along—heart. “We’re a cool, bada**, supportive city, and we love it and want it to be better — and the only way we know how to do it is to be on each others’ side and build it up together,” Qui Tran a local restaurant owner told the publication.

With new locations sprouting up across the city and age-old restaurants revamping their classics, locals and tourists alike have felt their plates come to life!
