HEALTH Depression
Suffering from depression can often make people feel isolated. The hashtag turned social media campaign, #medsworkedforme, is aiming to normalize treatment for mental illness.
According to the World Health Organization, over 300 million people are dealing with depression globally. Similar to the vast span of the condition, there are a number of treatments that can help people overcome it.
In a study by The Guardian, medical experts and scientists examined and researched more than 500 published and unpublished trials of 21 different antidepressants and their effectiveness.
Professor Carmine Pariante, a spokesperson for the Royal College of Psychiatrists, said that this study, "finally puts to bed the controversy on antidepressants, clearly showing that these drugs do work in lifting mood and helping most people with depression," according to The Guardian.
In response to this study, #medsworkedforme has been circulating online social media platforms.

As more people discuss their experiences with depression, access to proper care can be normalized. While medication is not the answer for everyone, dissolving stigma around treatment is beneficial for those in need.
