A six am spin class with techno music and colorful strobe lights doesn't exactly seem like everybody's idea of a good time, but you'd be surprised.
Spin exercise classes are the hottest fitness trend right now. Starting with SoulCycle, thousands of biking gyms have now sprung up across America. These hour-long biking workouts target building up muscle in your arms and legs—but they come at a price.
By getting people hooked with free introductory classes, this gym fad will cost anything from $20 per class to $170 per month in membership. Who knew biking was only for the elite?
When in these spin classes, the atmosphere is like a Las Vegas nightclub. The lights are dimmed low, pop remixes are blaring, and you can't tell if it's the beat of the bass or your heart that's pumping in overdrive. The instructors yell things like "you've got it!" and "you're beautiful, keep riding!"
Only time can tell if the hype around these spin classes will keep momentum or derail. You can see if there are spin class locations near you here.
