Celebrity trainer warns against doing burpees

Burpees are undoubtedly a cardiovascular workout that burns fat fast. However, there are negative health implications that come along with your fitness results. 

Zac Efron's personal trainer, Patrick Murphy, shared how he whipped the actor into amazing shape for the film 'Baywatch' with no burpees involved. He used a mixture of balance, strength, and power training. 

However, Murphy warns against workouts that show a lot of progress but are very hard on your body. Burpees were example number one. He told Men's Fitness, "they're not good for your wrists, back, or knees—especially for the average person with an office job who's sitting all day." He goes on to classify them as "strain-training."

While the exercise gets the job done in theory, Murphy argues that it isn't worth the health risks. Burpees cause problems like tight hip flexors and rounded shoulders.

There is also the issue that most people aren't doing them right. It is difficult to have the proper form for an exercise when the goal is to do as many as you can in 60 seconds. It's basically a recipe for disaster. 

If you want to get a beach bod like Zac Efron, there are plenty of other effective fat-burning workouts to choose from, don't worry.
