According to the website The Doctors Weigh In, a study was conducted in 2003 at NYU in which university students had to write down what they were grateful for on a daily basis. At the end of the study, the participants reported having less problems with physical ailments, such as headaches and upset stomachs.

In another study, researchers in Switzerland found that those who regularly practice gratitude were more likely to have healthy diets and abstain from drugs. They also reported having better physical well-being overall.

According to Psychology Today, a research study done by Applied Psychology observed that students who wrote in a gratitude journal tended to worry less before bed, and slept more soundly as a result.

Practicing regular feelings of appreciation has even been linked to decreased mortality rates among healthy and sick people, according to another scientific study.

Gratefulness has been linked to decreased blood pressure and inflammation which benefits heart health. Plus it has been shown that counting your blessings can lead to a more positive well-being overall.

The moral of the story is, write in your gratitude journal every day to keep the doctor away.
