LIFESTYLE Las vegas

Las Vegas is known for a world of things. From drive-thru weddings to yard-long cocktails, Sin City is definitely memorable. But as technological advancements make their way to the Nevada desert, will Las Vegas be known as the robotic city?

One establishment called the Tipsy Robot thinks that innovation is the key to a bar's success among the already saturated market. Customers order their cocktail of choice on an iPad, and watch in amazement as robotic arms create their beverage in 90 seconds or less. However this leaves something to consider—is bartending the next job to fall victim to mechanical replacement?

A study from the Institute for Spatial Economic Analysis (ISEA) analyzed the percentage of careers that could be made automatic by the year 2035. Across the country, 55% or more jobs appear to be under threat, but in Las Vegas that figure was a whopping 65%—the highest percentage in the US.

“The replacement of jobs by machines has been happening continuously since the Industrial Revolution, but it’s expected to significantly accelerate in the coming 10 or 20 years,” the founding director of ISEA, Professor Johannes Moenius, said, according to Culture Trip. “This looks like especially tough times ahead for Vegas and the Inland Empire,” Professor Moenius explained. “But even though there may be a few winners, pretty much every region in the U.S. is going to get a hair-cut.”

Next time you are planning on taking a wild trip to Vegas, you may realize how robotic it is.
