There is no doubt that single-serve coffee pods have revolutionized our mornings, but are they holding us back environmentally? The popular coffee distributor Nespresso is working to change this cycle while maintaining its signature ease.

Being made with aluminum instead of plastic, users can reprocess their pods over and over again. Coffee drinkers can bring in their used containers to any Nespresso location, or just drop them off at a UPS to be shipped.

So what happens to the once-used pods? “The coffee grounds are either turned into nutrient-rich compost and topsoil or turned into biogas,” a Nespresso spokesperson told Mic.com. “The aluminum is processed and, ultimately, reused to produce new products.”

Now, Nespresso is rolling out a new zero-waste product that is equally as luxurious as their coffee. Partnering with the Swiss writing utensil company Caran d’Ache, Nespresso announced they will be selling limited-edition ballpoint pens.

The high-end pens will be available May 26 and cost $54 each. The sleek and recycled collaboration is sure to make you the envy of your whole office.
