When you are promised an event with tacos—there better be tacos. Over 1,000 people in Chicago are feeling fiesta-less as a Facebook scam ripped them off.
The event was labeled as “Taco Fest Chicago” and promised free downtown parking, "high speed daredevil chihuahua racing," and of course, tacos. Eager patrons shelled out anywhere from $20 to $80 in pre-event ticket sales, according to Munchies.
The event is scheduled for June 9, however The Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events for Chicago reported that no such festival has applied for the necessary permits or event space. In addition, the company listed (on the now deleted event page), Fanoomies Entertainment, appears to be just as fake as the event. They claim that they are based out of California, but The Sacramento Bee reports they are "not registered as a corporation or LP/LLC with the California Secretary of State."
Similarly, Fanoomies Entertainment had an upcoming sushi festival planned in California. Listed as being held at the Hyatt Regency Sacramento, the hotel later confirmed that they had no such event planned, making this scam number two.
Food lovers across the country are feeling burned by these fake event pages.
