The world was rocked when Stephen Hillenburg, the mastermind behind the Nickelodeon cartoon show 'SpongeBob SquarePants,' passed away in November last year after a battle with ALS. Now, over a million of those people want to rock the halftime show of one of the most-watched sporting events in the world with a song from the show in honor of Hillenburg's memory.

According to NME, a petition for the song 'Sweet Victory' to be played at the Super Bowl has already garnered more than 1.1 million signatures. The track became a fan favorite after appearing in the famous 'Band Geeks' episode, in which Squidward attempts to one-up his rival Squilliam Fancyson by conducting a marching band at the halftime show of the "Bubble Bowl."

In the episode, the band begins their performance precariously, until SpongeBob somehow turns his nasally voice into something more akin to a hit '80s singer and delivers a show that wins the entire audience, both on the show and off.

Patrick Star says of the footage of real humans spliced into the cartoon, "These are some ugly fish," and Spongebob suggests, "Maybe we're near one of those toxic waste dumps." Just another example of the brilliant humor of the show that lives on.

The Change.org petition states, "As a tribute to [Hillenburg's] legacy, his contributions to a generation of children, and to truly showcase the greatness of this song, we call for Sweet Victory to be performed at the Halftime Show."

The track itself was reportedly originally licensed by APM Music, a music production company well-known for creating songs for hundreds of iconic American shows and films.

“We are truly thrilled that ‘Sweet Victory,’ a production music song, has crossed over into the mainstream of America’s consciousness, and has become an iconic, ‘Can-Do,’ rock anthem, thanks to the remarkable creativity of the late Stephen Hillenburg and composers David Glen Eisley and Bob Kulick,” said Adam Taylor, president of APM Music. “We are grateful for the many years of joy and humor ‘SpongeBob’ has brought to all of us.”

Super Bowl Sunday is now widely recognized as an unofficial American national holiday, and 'SpongeBob' is unofficially celebrated as one of the best cartoons to ever grace TV, so it all makes sense. Super Bowl Sunday is also reportedly the second-largest day for US food consumption, after Thanksgiving, so if the petition succeeds in getting 'Sweet Victory' to ring out at the famed halftime show, people across the world should celebrate with feasts of Krabby Patties.
