First held in San Francisco in 1982 (and then again in 1986), the Gay Games have since been hosted in Vancouver, New York City, Amsterdam, Sydney, Chicago, Cologne, Cleveland and Akron (jointly in 2014), and, most recently, Paris. Self-described as "the world’s largest sports and cultural event open to all," the Gay Games are held every four years and primarily serve the LGBT community.
