MOVIES Tomb Raider

As the new 'Tomb Rader' movie is set to release, fans of the video games and original film franchise look forward to seeing the new adaptation.

Alicia Vikander will star as Lara Croft, replacing Angelina Jolie, who played the titular character in the 2000-era films. Vikander explained how she made the iconic role her own. "Both Angelina and I, we had different versions of the games," Vikander said according to Bustle. "I had the reboot, she had the previous ones, where we could both find inspiration from the character."

When Jolie played Lara Croft, her role was based off of the earlier version of the game. This Lara was a highly-skilled fighter that led a double life as a British aristocrat and an artifact collector.

Vikander's version, however, is said to be based on the 2013 reboot of the video game. She plays a young woman who is on a path to self-discovery and realizes her power and intuition along the way.

'Tomb Raider' is coming to theaters March 16.
