Greg Berlanti's romantic comedy about a gay teen coming out in high school has been rated 21+ in Singapore. The Southeast Asian country's Information Media Development Authority (IMDA) dubbed the film inappropriate, with an advisory for the "Homosexual Theme," according to Mashable. 

As a response to this rating, a Change.org petition has gone viral that is attempting to adjust the organizations ruling to 16+. Thasha Monique Dharmendra, who is spearheading the appeal wrote on the page, "Its just a harmless coming of age movie where the main character happens to be gay. I understand that the older generations are hostile towards the LGBTQ+ community thus leading to some younger generations to just follow suit. However, a young Singaporean teen struggling with their sexuality might find themself relating and finding comfort in this movie."

In comparison, 'Love Simon' is rated PG-13 in the US, Canada, Malaysia, and the Philippines. The film may be seen by those over 12 years of age in the UK, Ireland, and Brazil. In South Korea and Australia it's rated 15 and over. And for audiences in Finland, the Netherlands, and Germany there is no age restriction. 

The petition has 14,130 out of the 15,000 signature goal at the time of writing.
