Academy Award-winning actor, Natalie Portman, has lent her star power to a new documentary about farming in America called 'Eating Animals.' Though the title may make you think it is just another vegan flick, the film takes more of a technical look at farming and understanding how food—and food production—has evolved into what it is today.

'Eating Animals' is based on Jonathan Safran Foer's book of the same name. The film follows various characters within the American food system and uncovers how monopolized grocery store items really are.

“I hope people will take away that there was this kind of farming, an actual long-standing American tradition of farming that’s being lost,” Portman told Vogue. “We’re losing this art that we had in this country, and it’s affecting the health of our planet and also our health. Hopefully, people will think before they make the choices that they do in terms of what they eat, whether that’s once a day or once a week or all the time.”
