Netflix has just announced that Will Ferrell will cowrite and star in a new film called 'Eurovision,' Pitchfork reports. 

It will be Ferrell's first ever Netflix original, and he's chosen the Eurovision Song Contest as the center of his work. The contest is an annual international European singing competition that is wildly popular around the world. It took place this year in Portugal, with 43 countries sending their best talent to compete. Israel took home the gold with the song "Toy," performed by Netta.

The United States has never competed, but perhaps Ferrell's immense American fan base will draw some attention to the popular event.

Ferrell will reportedly cowrite the film with his long-time collaborator Andrew Steele, who is also the Funny or Die creative director, as well as the former head writer on 'Saturday Night Live.' 

With Ferrell's track record, the help of Steele, and the watchful eye of Netflix, the new comedy should be a hit—or at least it should involve a lot of musical numbers, which is also sure to be entertaining.
