MUSIC SXSW
South by Southwest (SXSW) is the multimedia festival everyone’s talking about. Based in Austin, Texas, the event attracts the most creative minds in music, film, and technology. Pundits and politicians lead talks, while musicians light up the stage with fiery performances. This year plenty of British talent is on show, so here’s a short rundown of the best on display.
Nubya Garcia is a saxophonist who lights up London with fiery jazz, but is preparing to cross over into other genres. She’s performing at SXSW with afrofuturistic numbers like ‘Once’. Girl Ray is another act to watch. The Carole King-inspired pop trio craft catchy singles like ‘Trouble’. Then there’s Shame, a breakout punk outfit with something to say. The grimy band play tough-as-nails tunes like ‘One Rizla’.
