America's best and worst airports for international travel - If you're one of the many Americans planning a summer vacation abroad, you're probably dreading the inevitable long wait lines at customs when you return. The good news is that a recent study performed by MileCards.com found that wait times to get through Customs and Borders Protection varies by airport.

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) - If you've ever traveled internationally, then you know that reentering the United States and passing through Customs and Border Protection can be a nightmare.

The study - MileCards.com performed a study to find out which international airports have the longest Customs and Border Protection wait times.

Wait times - The longest wait times averaged 22 minutes, while the shortest times averaged 10.

Automated Passport Control - Many of the busiest international airports also now offer self-service Automated Passport Control kiosks for Americans to reduce time spent in line.

Tips - The study gave travelers some helpful tips, including enrolling in CBP’s Global Entry Trusted Traveler Program, which allows members to speed through customs and offers access to TSA PreCheck as a perk.

Europe arrivals - The study had some interesting findings, including that travelers returning from Europe will find shorter wait times in Atlanta or Washington Dulles as opposed to JFK or Newark.

Asia arrivals - Similarly, travelers returning from Asian countries should try to find flights to Seattle instead of California airports.

Avoid California if possible - The study indicated that California is the worst state to fly into for wait times. Five of the worst international airports are located in this state.
