Did SNL's Pete Davidson go too far with this joke?

On Saturday evening, 'Saturday Night Live' cast member Pete Davidson decided to poke some fun at some of the American midterm election candidates.
But one particular joke fell seriously flat when he decided to go in on GOP congressional candidate, Dan Crenshaw.
Davidson compared the veteran to looking like a hitman in a porno movie. Crenshaw lost his right eye after an explosion while serving in Afghanistan and now wears an eye patch. Davidson joked, "I know he lost his eye in war or whatever...whatever." Davidson is receiving serious backlash for the insensitive comment, for which Crenshaw has also responded via Twitter:
Good rule in life: I try hard not to offend; I try harder not to be offended. That being said, I hope @nbcsnl recognizes that vets don’t deserve to see their wounds used as punchlines for bad jokes.

Crenshaw also spoke exclusively to TMZ about the controversy:
Davidson finished off his bit by encouraging viewers to vote in tomorrow's U.S. midterm elections.
